2010 Game Report

Matawan 14...Thompson 9
The Huskies opened their 2010 season with a 14-9 victory over Thompson. With temperatures soaring towards 90 degrees, the Husky bats were red hot and their relief pitching sizzled. Matawan jumped out to a 1-0 lead but quickly gave it away as Thompson's right fielder launched a three run homer to make the score 3-1. The Husky bats responded in the top of the 2nd as Tyler Perlowin (1-6, R, 2RBI) smacked a timely two-out two-RBI single to tie the game. The Huskies exploded for 5 runs in the 3rd led by Chris Veary's (3-5, 4 RBI, SB, R) first of two huge base hits. However, Matawan gave the lead right back as Thompson plated 4 runs to make the score 8-7 after 3 innings. Nick Santuccio (3.33 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 5K) came in relief and proceeded to silence Thompson's bats with an outstanding performance out of the bullpen. Santuccio also chipped in offensively with 2 hits, 2 runs, and a RBI. After Veary's second 2-RBI single in the 5th made the score 11-7, Justin Henderson (1-5, 2B, RBI) notched Matawan's first extra base hit of the season to score 2 runs and put the game out of reach. Dylan Ahrens pitched the seventh inning to seal the 14-9 victory. Joe Piscopo (2-4, 2R, BB, RBI) and Tyler Birch (2-3, 2BB, 2SB, 3R) enjoyed nice offensive performances. It wasn't pretty...but a win is a win!
 
Matawan 5...Hazlet 1
Tyler Perlowin scattered eight hits over seven innings and allowed just two walks while striking out six to earn his first victory of the season. Perlowin's complete game gem was key as Matawan used three pitchers in their opener vs. Thompson. Both teams were held scoreless through three innnings until Justin Henderson started the 4th inning by getting hit by a pitch. He quickly moved to second on a Chris Veary (2-4, R) single. Joe Piscopo (1-2, BB, R, SAC) followed with a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt to move both runners into scoring position. Nick Santuccio (2-3, 2RBI, SB, 2B) then bounced a single up the middle to score Henderson. Cory Nusbaum (RBI, SAC) then followed with a sacrifice fly to give the Huskies a lead they would not give back. Piscopo and Santuccio again found themselves in the middle of a Matawan rally as Santuccio doubled home Piscopo to plate the third run. Hazlet finally broke through in the bottom of the 6th with a run, but Mike Creamer drilled an opposite field 2-run homer to put the game out of reach. Matawan was able to preserve Perlowin's win by playing their second straight flawless defensive game. Cory Nusbaum did an outstanding job of blocking balls and threw out a baserunner at 3rd base to end a Hazlet rally in the 2nd inning.
 
Matawan 7...Holmdel 0
For the second straight game, the Huskies combined dominant pitching, flawless defense, and timely hitting to jump out of the gates with a 3 and 0 record on the young season. Mike Creamer (7IP, 2H, 4BB, 5K, 0ER)kept Holmdel's hitters guessing and off balance all afternoon as he went the distance to win his first game of the season. After a scoreless first inning, Matawan loaded the bases with no outs on back-to-back singles by Joe Piscopo (2-3, 2R) and Cory Nusbaum (1-3). Tyler Birch and Tyler Perlowin forced home runs on a HBP and BB to make the score 2-0. Drew Fisher (1-2, SAC, 2RBI) lined a clutch two-out single up the middle to score Birch and Billy Rodriguez, who ran for Nusbaum, to make the score 4-0 after 2 innings. The Huskies were unable to muster any offense until the 7th inning when Piscopo lead off with a single and quickly found himself on third base after two wild pitches. Birch executed a perfect squeeze that completely took Holmdel for surprise and left him standing on first base with an RBI single. Mike Creamer broke the game open with a 2-RBI triple to score Birch and Perlowin (4BB, R, SB, RBI) and seal the victory. Nick Santuccio made several dazzling plays including a play deep in the hole that paralleled Joe Piscopo's diving fielder's choice in shallow left field that were top nominated web gems.
 
Matawan 8...Colts Neck 0
Nick Santuccio pitched 6 and 2/3 innings of no-hit ball as the Huskies rolled to their fourth straight victory to start the season. With million dollar estates surrounding the fields of Colts Neck, their baseball diamond had a net worth of about ten cents. With one out remaining in Santuccio's masterpiece, a bad-hop-ground-ball-base-hit found its way into the dandelion-littered outfield grass. Nick was dominating as he improved to 2 and 0 on the season while striking out 12 and walking only one batter to keep his ERA at 0.00. We are not talking about Delta House's GPA in the classic movie Animal House...he has not allowed an earned run in 10+ innings of work this year. Nick Smith, who ran for catcher Cory Nusbaum, stole his first MAMS base and scored his first MAMS run on an RBI single by Joe Piscopo (2-3, RBI, R, HBP) in the 3rd. The Huskies batted around in the 5th inning to plate 6 runs and put the game into cruise control. Tyler Perlowin (2-4, R, 3SB), Drew Fisher (1-2, BB, RBI, R), Piscopo, Mike Creamer (R), Chris Veary (1-3, R, 2RBI), and Tyler Birch (1-2, R, RBI, 2 SB) each scored in the inning. Nick Santuccio contributed a sacrifice fly RBI and both Joe Garofalo and Nick Tomkins collected their first MAMS basehits in the 8-0 win.
 
Matawan 9...Ocean 2
The Ocean Spartan baseball program has a long history of success statewide and in the Shore Conference. Their Varsity team is currently ranked #8 in the state and #2 in the Shore Conference. They made the short trip from exit 105 to exit 120 on Tuesday and were promptly handed a 9-2 loss to the undefeated Matawan Huskies. Joe Piscopo (2-3, BB, 2R, SB) got the Huskies going in the bottom of the first with a two-out walk. He moved to 2nd base on the first of Mike Creamer's (2-3, BB, R) singles and soon scored on Chris Veary's (1-1, RBI, 2BB, R) sixth RBI of the season. Matawan pitcher Tyler Perlowin (5IP, 5K, 3BB, 3H, 0ER, W) was cruising along until Ocean plated 2 runs on a two-out single to take the lead. The Husky bats exploded for 7 runs in the bottom of the 5th to put the game out of reach. Nick Santuccio (1-3, 2B, 3RBI) lined a bases clearing 3RBI double to give Matawan the lead. Justin Henderson (1-3, 3B, RBI) followed with an RBI triple to make the score 5-2 - but the Huskies were not done. Tyler Birch (1-2, 2R, BB, RBI) then laid down his second squeeze of the season to score Henderson and Luke Adduchio (2-3, 2B, R) later scored on a strikeout-throwdown to first to make the score 9-2. Alex Cella collected his first career MAMS hit and Mike Creamer pitched the final two innings to nail down the victory.
 
Matawan 7...Neptune 4
With three games in four days this week, the Huskies needed a team effort against the Scarlet Fliers of Neptune. Dylan Ahrens was handed the ball for his first MAMS start and he relied on some great defensive help to earn his first MAMS victory of his career. Ahrens scattered 9 hits over 6 and 2/3 innings while striking out 5 and not walking a batter. Neptune certainly brought their lumber to Husky Park as they drove numerous balls into the outfield sky. Nick Smith made two dazzling catches in left field on balls that would have been gone in many ballparks. Matt Esposito made a diving shoe-string catch to steal another hit away from Neptune. Once again, the Huskies relied on their "shock and awe" attack as they again batted around for their 2010 trademark big inning. Chris Shaw (2BB, 3SB, 2R) led off the 2nd with a walk, Dylan Ahrens (1-3, R, SB) followed with a single, and Luke Adduchio (2-2, 2B, R, RBI) also singled to load the bases. Joe Piscopo (1-2, R, 2RBI) continued his torrid hitting streak with a 2 RBI single to plate Matawan's first two runs. Mike Creamer (1-2, 3B, R, RBI) tripled to score Piscopo, and Creamer scored on a ball botched by the 2nd baseman to make the score 5-0. The Huskies increased their lead to 6-0 in the bottom of the 3rd when Taylor Grillo (2-3, 2B, 3B, RBI) doubled and courtesy runner Tyler Perlowin scored on the ensuing double by Adduchio. Matawan scored its seventh run after Shaw led off the 5th with another walk and Grillo followed with an RBI triple to give the Huskies all the runs they would need. The pesky Scarlet Fliers scored 3 runs in the top of the 7th and had the tying run on deck as Joe Garofalo struck out Neptune's batter for the 21st and final out of the ball game.
 
Matawan 6...Wall 2
Six years and four days - that's how long it's been since Matawan made the journey to Wall Township. On Monday, April 19, 2004, the Wall Crimson Knights handed the Huskies their only blemish on a Championship season with a 6-4 defeat. Those 2004 Huskies are now sophomores in college while the 2010 Huskies were still in 1st and 2nd grade. There was obviously a score to settle. Matawan scored early and often in the first two innings to jump out to a 5-0 lead. Joe Piscopo (2-4, R) and Mike Creamer (1-2, 2B, R, HBP, SB, RBI, BB) scored on  Chris Veary fielder's choice and ensuing error to score the first two runs. Nick Santuccio (3-4, 2-2B, R, RBI) followed with the first of his two doubles and scored on Justin Henderson's fielder's choice to make the score 3-0 after 1 inning. Cory Nusbaum walked to lead off the 2nd and was replaced by courtesy runner Nick Smith. Tyler Birch (1-2, R) followed with a single and Tyler Perlowin walked to load the bases. Mike Creamer collected an easy RBI after getting hit by a pitch to score Smith and Birch scored on an error to make it 5-1 after two innings. From here, Nick Santuccio (5 IP, 6H, 3BB, 5K, 2ER) pitched a very efficient 5 innings to notch his 3rd win of the season. Tyler Perlowin and Mike Creamer each pitched scoreless innings out of the bullpen and Justin Henderson gave the Huskies some breathing room with an RBI single in the 7th to seal the 6-2 victory.
 
Bayshore 3...Matawan 0
     The great Julio Cesar Chavez won 88 straight boxing bouts during the 80's and 90's. The UCLA men's hoops team won 88 straight games from '71-'74 and the current UCONN ladies' hoops team has a 78 game winning streak. The NY Giants (not the football Giants) of 1916 won a MLB record 26 games in a row. The New England Patriots of '03-'04 were victorious in 21 straight games. The Oklahoma Sooners of '53-'57 won an NCAA record 47 straight games on the gridiron. The LA Lakers of '71-'72 won 33 straight NBA games. Mario Lemieux and the Pittsburgh Penguins won 17 straight NHL games on route to several Stanley Cups. It's time to put the MAMS Huskies and their 30 game winning streak in the same category.
     The Huskies and their storied middle school baseball program brought their 30 game winning streak to Middletown without tasting defeat since May 5, 2008. That all game to a crushing halt as Bayshore capitalized on Matawan miscues and their power-hitting second baseman hit a long homer on route to a 3-0 victory over the Huskies. Mike Creamer was superb in defeat. He struck out 8 batters, scattered 6 hits and 2 walks, and did not allow an earned run. The Bayshore pitcher was a tad bit better as he limited the potent Husky bats to only two hits - one by Chris Veary and the other by Drew Fisher. Sometimes things just don't go your way - hats off to Bayshore for a great win. Now it's time to start a new winning streak!
 
Matawan 8...Thompson 4
We are not scheduled to play Bayshore again this season. Unfortunately for Middletown, the Huskies took out their frustrations from the day before against Bayshore's sister school, Thompson. Matawan handed Nick Santuccio the ball in the unfamiliar role as a losing streak stopper. After falling behind 1-0, the Huskies scored two runs in the bottom of the second to capture a lead they would not relinquish. Dylan Ahrens (1-3, R, SB) singled to lead off, stole second, and later scored on the first of Joe Garofalo's (2-3, RBI) two hits on the day. Garofalo then scored on an RBI ground out by Joe Piscopo (0-3, BB, RBI, R) to make it 2-1. The fourth inning saw the Husky bats explode as they batted around and plated 6 runs. Luke Adduchio (0-2, R, BB), Tyler Perlowin (4-4, RBI, 2B, R), Joe Piscopo, Mike Creamer (1-2, 2RBI, 2SB, 2BB, R), Nick Smith, and Alex Cella all scored to make it 8-1. Santuccio continued to keep Thompson off balance all day as he only allowed 4 hits while striking out 4 and not allowing an earned run. Tyler Perlowin and Mike Creamer had huge offensive games for the Huskies as they improve to 8-1 on the season.
 
Matawan 15...Hazlet 5
The Huskies rolled to their 9th victory of the season in a game that was much closer than the score indicated. Hazlet jumped out to a 1-0 lead off starter Tyler Perlowin (4.33 IP, 6H, 2BB, 2K, 4ER), but Matawan quickly answered with four runs of their own in the bottom half of the second inning. Tyler Birch (4-4, 4R, 3B, 2RBI, SB) had a huge game at the plate and found himself leading off an inning on three separate occasions. He scored the initial Husky run on the first of Drew Fisher's (2-3, 3R, SB, RBI) two hits on the day. Tyler Perlowin (1-2, HBP, 2R, SB, 2RBI, BB) and Joe Piscopo (0-4, 2R, RBI) each forced home a run on fielder's choices. Nick Santuccio (1-4, 2RBI, R) closed out the scoring in the second inning with a 2RBI single to score Piscopo and Creamer, making the score 4-1 in favor of Matawan. The Huskies added two more runs in the bottom of the third as Birch led off with a long triple and scored on Taylor Grillo's (1-1, RBI, 2BB) RBI single. Drew Fisher promptly followed with a hit and scored on Perlowin's lone RBI of the game. The Huskies hit a major speed bump as Hazlet's bats caught up with Perlowin and scored 4 runs to make it a 6-5 game in the fifth inning. Mike Creamer was summoned from the shortstop position to gain the final two outs of the inning. As we have seen many times this year, the Huskies normally score in bunches and this game was no different. Matawan sent 11 batters to the plate in the fifth inning and scored 9 runs to mercy the Rockets of Hazlet. Joe Garofalo (1-2, R) continued his hot hitting with a single and run scored. Billy Rodriguez scored a run in the offensive outburst and Tyler Birch ended the game by stealing third and racing home on the ensuing overthrow for Matawan's fifteenth run of the game.
 
Matawan 14...Holmdel 2
The Matawan Huskies made the short trip to Holmdel with a huge game ahead of them. The Huskies sported a 7-1 record in conference play and Holmdel's record stood at 7-2. With a playoff-like atmosphere brewing off of Rt. 520, the Huskies brought their "A game" and left little doubt as to who is the best team in this conference. Holmdel scratched a run in their half of the first to take an early 1-0 lead off starter Nick Santuccio (4IP, 3H, 3BB, 3K, 2ER). Tyler Perlowin (2-3, 3R, RBI) broke open the scoring with a bases loaded single. Joe Piscopo (2-2, 2BB, 2R, RBI) followed with a walk. Nick Santuccio then "launched" a sacrifice fly about 70 feet down the 3rd baseline in foul territory. Tyler Perlowin wisely tagged up and saw that no one was covering home to give Santuccio and easy RBI and make the score 4-1. In the 4th inning, the Husky offense showed off all its weapons as they combined some small and long ball to put the game out of reach. Drew Fisher (1-1, 3R, 2BB) singled with one out and went to second on a perfectly executed bunt by Tyler Perlowin. Joe Piscopo walked to load the bases and Mike Creamer (2-4, 2B, 2R, 3RBI) followed with an RBI single. After Holmdel recored the 2nd out of the inning, Tyler Birch (BB, R, RBI) was intentionally walked to load the bases for Chris Veary. Veary (2-3, 2R, 2B, 3RBI) promptly deposited the second pitch he saw into deep left-center field to clear the bases and make the score 9-1. Justin Henderson (1-4, R, RBI) scored Veary as the Huskies hit double digits in runs scored for the second game in a row. With the Holmdel Hornets on life support, the Huskies pulled the plug with four more runs in the top of the 5th as Fisher and Perlowin scored on Creamer's 2RBI double. Piscopo soon scored on a Santuccio single and Creamer finished off Holmdel by wisely scoring on a Birch ground out. Dylan Ahrens closed out a 14-2 drubbing by setting down Holmdel to close out the 5th and record a mercy win.
 
Matawan 7...Thorne 6
As the news of the standings hit the air waves on Friday, the Huskies knew they controlled their own destiny with a two game lead and only five left to play. The Huskies sported their pesky foes from Thorne a run in the 3rd. Matawan responded with two runs of their own as they began the second round of at bats against the Thorne pitcher. Tyler Perlowin (4-5, 2B, SB, 2R, 2RBI) continued his torrid hitting streak with a double and was followed by a single off the bat of Joe Piscopo (3-4, R, RBI). Mike Creamer (3-4, R, SB) followed with a hit of his own to load the bases for Nick Santuccio. Santuccio (HBP, SAC) hit a ball that ate up the Thorne shortstop that allowed two runs to score as Matawan took a 2-1 lead. Matawan added another run in the 4th as Perlowin singled, stole second, and scored on a Piscopo RBI single. Things got very hairy as we entered the 5th inning. Thorne loaded the bases off Creamer (4.33 IP, 6H, 3BB, 1K, 4ER) and scored on a groundout to cut Matawan's lead to 3-2. After another walk loaded the bases, Dylan Ahrens (1IP, 2H, 1BB)was summoned from the bullpen in a tough spot. Thorne capitalized with an RBI double and a botched ball at third base to grab a 6-3 lead with the Huskies down to their last 9 outs. Matawan quickly tried to recoup lost runs as Chris Veary (1-4, RBI) and Tyler Birch (1-4, R) started the 5th with back to back singles. Justin Henderson (2-2) singled as well to load the bases and Dylan Ahrens (RBI) responded with a groundout RBI to trim the lead to two. Perlowin followed with an RBI single as the Huskies crept closer to Thorne's lead. Nick Santuccio (1.67 IP, 0 H, 1K, 0 ER,W) relieved Ahrens and quickly induced a 4-6-3 double play to escape a 6th inning jam and give Matawan the momentum needed to complete the comeback. Mike Creamer led off the 6th with a hit and immediately stole second base. Everyone in Husky Park knew Nick Santuccio would be bunting, and he laid down a beauty down the third base line allowing Creamer to move 90 feet from tying the game. Chris Veary followed with a ground ball to third that allowed Creamer to scamper home just ahead of the Thorne throw. Santuccio set down Thorne 1-2-3 in the top of the 7th setting the stage for the walkoff win...the last win in this fashion was way back on May 2, 2008. Drew Fisher (2-4, R, SB) and Justin Henderson led off the bottom of the 7th with singles. As was the case in the previous inning, Luke Adduchio (SAC) responded with a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt to move the runners up. Tyler Perlowin lofted a bloop single down the right field line to score Fisher and set off a wild celebration.
 
Matawan 10...Neptune 5
The Huskies made the trip south down the GSP to exit 100, spent about five minutes stretching and throwing, and immediately got down to business. Joe Piscopo (1-4, R) singled in the first, moved to third on Mike Creamer's (2-4, 2R, 2B, 3B) double, and scored along with Creamer on Tyler Birch's (3-4, 2B, 3B, 3R, 2RBI) double to give Matawan a 2-0 lead. Justin Henderson (2-3, 3RBI, R, SB) scored Birch on a groundout to conclude the scoring in the first. The Neptune Scarlet Fliers came to play as they responded with two runs of their own. In this punchers battle, the Huskies delivered blows and scored runs in every inning except the 6th. Luke Adduchio (2-3, 2R) and Nick Tomkins (1-3, R, 2B) scored in the second inning. Tyler Birch and Justin Henderson scored in the third. Adduchio scored again in the 4th and Birch again in the 5th innings. Mike Creamer helped the Huskies reach double digits in runs by leading off the seventh with a triple and scoring on Henderson's third RBI of the game. Tyler Perlowin (5IP, 6H, 2BB, 3K, 3ER, W) was good enought to earn his fourth victory of the season. Drew Fisher (2IP, 2H, 1BB, 3K) made his MAMS pitching debut to seal their twelfth victory of the season for the Huskies as they defeated Neptune by a final score of 10-5.
 
Colts Neck 8...Matawan 7
Bases on balls...these words are taboo from a pitcher's perspective. We simply gave too many free passes to a good hitting Colts Neck team to come out on top. When you play 14 games during a season, you're going to have a hiccup or two. We have hit three speed bumps in our two losses: the first inning vs. Bayshore and the first and fourth innings vs. Colts Neck. Astonishingly, the Huskies still found themselves in the ballgame due to determination, heart, and a little "small ball." Although both Mike Creamer and Nick Santuccio have been brilliant on the mound this season, they didn't have their best stuff vs. the Colts. Matawan spotted Colts Neck a 3-0 lead after the first inning. In the bottom of the third, the last three batters gave the Huskies some life. Drew Fisher (1-3, R) led off with a single and moved to second as Taylor Grillo (2-3) laid down a perfect bunt with no one out. Luke Adduchio (1-2, 2R, BB) bunted again and forced the Colts Neck pitcher to make an wild throw to score Fisher and move courtesy runner Billy Rodriguez to third as Adduchio raced to second base. Tyler Perlowin (1-4) lined out to first bringing Joe Piscopo to the plate. Piscopo (2-3, SAC, 3RBI) put down a perfect squeeze bunt and both Rodriguez and Adduchio scored to tie the game. However, Colts Neck responded with 5 runs in the fourth with only 2 hits - but 6 walks. The Huskies rallied again the the fifth as Piscopo singled, Creamer (2-4, 2B, R, SB) doubled, and Santuccio (1-3, R, BB) walked to load the bases. Both Tyler Birch (1-3, BB, RBI) and Chris Veary (0-3, BB, RBI) forced home runs with bases on balls. Justin Henderson (0-2, SAC, RBI) plated Santuccio to cut the lead to 8-6. Adduchio led off the sixth with a single and eventually scored on a Piscopo RBI to cut the lead to 8-7. Unfortunately, there was no joy in Huskyville as Colts Neck set down the Huskies 1-2-3 in the seventh for the victory.
 
Matawan 12...Long Branch 2
With a depleted pitching staff because of previous games during the week, Drew Fisher was handed the ball for his first MAMS start on the hill. Fisher (5IP, 4H, 3BB, 6K, 1ER) responded with 5 innings of effective pitching to springboard Matawan to its 13th win of the season. It took a while for the Huksy bats to unload as Matawan played uninspired ball for four innings. Tyler Perlowin (BB, SB, R) led off the bottom of the first with a walk and scored on the first of Nick Santuccio's (3-4, SB, R, 2RBI) two RBI's on the day. In the second, Chris Veary (1-1, HBP, BB, 2R) singled and eventually moved to third base after back to back walks by Justin Henderson and Drew Fisher. Luke Adduchio (1-2, 2B, R, SAC, RBI) scored Veary with a sacrifice fly and Joe Piscopo (1-2, 2RBI, 2BB, 2B, R) scored Henderson with a bases loaded walk. Long Branch scored in their half of the third inning to cut the lead in half, but Matawan responded with a run of their own after Henderson (1-2, BB, 2R, RBI) scored Tyler Birch (R) with a single to make the score 3-1. Both teams were held scoreless in the fourth inning, but Long Branch scored a run to make the score 3-2 entering the bottom half of the fifth...that's when the fireworks began. The Huskies plated 9 runs as Veary, Henderson, Fisher, Adduchio, Nusbaum, Piscopo, Creamer and Santuccio all scored runs. Santuccio ended the game with a "walk off" single to score Creamer with the 12th run that resulted in the mercy win. The Huskies conclude their 2010 season on Monday vs. Thorne.
 
Matawan 14...Thorne 1
The Big Dogs certainly came to play on Monday. For the past week, there was speculation running wild as to possible scenarios involving a Matawan loss or win in its final vs. Thorne. Unfortunately for second place Bayshore, there was little doubt as to the outcome after the first inning was played. Tyler Perlowin (2-2, 4R, 2B, 2SB, BB, HBP) set the tone in the game's first at bat as he gutted out a base on balls after an eight pitch sequence. He moved to second base with a steal and moved to third on a single by Joe Piscopo (1-2, SAC, BB, 2R, SAC, RBI). Mike Creamer, a three year veteran of the MAMS baseball team, ripped a long double to score both runners and give the Huskies an early lead. Creamer (3-3, 2B, 3B, 4R, BB, 3RBI), who did a little of everything offensively, wisely stole home as Tyler Birch stole second to make the score 3-0 after a half inning of play. The club's ace, Nick Santuccio (5IP, 2H, 2BB, 8K, 1ER), took any life out of Thorne's batters by setting them down 1-2-3 with only 10 pitches in the bottom of the first. The Husky bats were just getting warmed up as Luke Adduchio (1-3, 2R) singled with one out in the second. He was joined on the basepaths by Perlowin and Piscopo, who were hit by a pitch and walked. Creamer again delivered a big hit as he drove home Adduchio. Nick Santuccio (3-4, 4RBI) drove home Piscopo and Creamer with an RBI single to make the score 7-0. Santuccio was dominant as he cruised through the Thorne lineup. The Huskies smelled blood in the water as they came to bat in the 4th inning. Perlowin led off the 4th inning with a single, went to second on a Creamer walk, and scored on another Santuccio RBI single. Tyler Birch (1-1, 3B, 3RBI, SAC, BB, SB) left no doubt to the outcome of this game with a scorching triple to score two runners as Matawan increased their lead to 10-0. Justin Henderson (RBI) drove home another run to close out the scoring in the 4th. Thorne scored their lone run in the bottom of the fourth to "cut" the lead to ten. Facing their possible last middle school at bats, the Huskies gave their fans one last look at their potent offense. Drew Fisher (2-3) singled but was cut down at 2B on an Adduchio fielder's choice. Perlowin followed with a double to score Adduchio. Piscopo plated Perlowin with a sacrifice fly and Creamer followed with a long triple of his own. Santuccio drove home Creamer one last time with yet another RBI single. Santuccio made the last inning look as easy as the first as he struck out the first two batters, then fielded a slow roller and threw to Chris Veary to set off a wild celebration. The MAMS Baseball team had clinched their fourth consecutive Shore Conference of Middle School Championship. Incredible job boys!!!
