2017 GAME REPORT

HOLMDEL 4/18/17

After seeing their first 3 games get rained out, your beloved Huskies finally got to play their first game of the season, & what a game it was! After spotting Holmdel leads of 4-0, 4-1 7-1, 7-4, & 10-4, the bats woke up in the 4th inning. Corey Pitts (3 for 4, 2 Runs, 2 RBI), Eli Gries-Smith (2 for 3, 3 Runs, Walk, RBI), Matt Bauer (2 for 3, Walk, K, 2 RBI), Tim Egan (3 for 5, Run, 2 Doubles, 2 RBI), & Rocko Brzezniak (2 for 3, 2 Runs, Double, HR, 2 Walks, 3 RBI) paced the Huskies for this comeback victory. Another exciting story was the contribution of the bullpen. Joe Reinhold, Chris Walowitz, & Aidan Holeman effectively shut down a potent Holmdel attack to keep us in this game.

THORNE 4/20/17

Once again, your beloved Huskies spotted Thorne a lead & was forced to play a come from behind game, and that's exactly what we did! Luke Elliott (3 for 4, Run, 2 SB), Rocko Brzezniak (2 for 3, Run, Double, SB, BB, RBI), Dom Salot (1 for 2, 2 Runs, 2 BB), Aidan Holeman (2 for 4, Run, Double, 3 RBI), Corey Pitts (2 for 4, Run, 2 SB, 2 RBI), & Eli Gries-Smith (2 for 3, 2 RBI) all dominated the plate. Gries-Smith took the ball & pitched 3 2/3 innings, leaving with a 8-5 lead. Mike Caldon threw the next 2 1/3 innings to hold the lead. Holeman pitched the 7th to earn his 2nd save of the season.

OCEAN 4/21/17

Tim Egan (1 for 3, BB, SB) took the ball & pitched effectively for 4 strong innings, striking out 4 while only surrendering 1 run. Unfortunately, that was all Ocean would need as your beloved Huskies could not muster any runs. Mike Caldon (2 for 2, BB) & Luke Elliott (2 for 4, 2 SB) enjoyed the best days at the plate for the Huskies. Rocko Brzezniak, Aidan Holeman, & Joe Reinhold also had hits or walks in this game.

BAYSHORE

Rocko Brzezniak (1 for 3, Run, SB, RBI) took the ball & pitched effectively, but the defense let him down in this lopsided game. Your beloved Huskies unfortunately committed at least 9 errors to let this one slip away. Luke Elliott (1 for 3, Run), Aidan Holeman (1 for 3, RBI), Mike Caldon (1 for 2), & Dom Salot (1 for 1) all had nice hits.

THOMPSON

Your beloved Huskies once again spotted their opponent 5 runs, and once again showed their character by never giving up & coming back in dramatic form to win this game. It just goes to show you, you can't measure the Heart of a Husky. In our 7 run 5th inning, Mike Caldon (Run, BB, Winning Pitcher) got it started with a walk. Dom Salot (Run, SB, BB) followed it up with a walk of his own. Andrew Vilchez (1 for 2, Run, SB, RBI) added a single to push in Caldon. Matt Bauer (2 for 2, Double, BB) walked to load the bases. Rocko Brzezniak (3 for 3, 2 Runs, 2 SB, BB, 2 RBI) hit an absolute BOMB, but the outfielders were so deep only 1 run scored. Luke Elliott (2 for 4, RBI) singled in another run. Aidan Holeman (1 for 4, Run, SB, RBI) hit into a fielders choice. Eli Gries-Smith (1 for 3, Run, BB, RBI) walked. Starting Pitcher Tim Egan (1 for 3, 2 RBI) then came through with a huge 2 out hit to drive in 2 more runs to take the lead.

As we are all learning from this Husky team, nothing comes easy. Thompson battled back & took a 1 run lead into the bottom of the 7th. Matt Bauer lead off the last frame by hitting a BOMB to left for a double. Brzezniak, the winning run, was intentionally walked. Luke Elliott, up there to sac bunt, made it to first to load the bases & push the tying run to third (Trevor Gaboff, 2 Runs, running for Bauer) & the winning run to second (Brzezniak). Holeman hit a grounder to bring Gaboff home to tie the game. Gries-Smith stepped into the box looking to be the hero. On the second pitch, Gries-Smith hit a single up the middle to plate Brzezniak & the celebration was on.

Egan, Joe Reinhold, Chris Walowitz, & Caldon all pitched well in this much needed victory.

HAZLET

Your beloved Huskies threw everything they had against rival Hazlet, but to no avail as Hazlet proved to be the better team. Rocko Brzezniak (2 for 3, Run, Triple, SB), Aidan Holeman (2 for 3, Double, Triple, Run, RBI), & Tim Egan (2 for 3, Double, SB) led the charge for the Huskies. Matt Bauer (1 for 2, BB, RBI) enjoyed a fine game. Holeman, Joe Reinhold, Eli Gries-Smith, & Luke Elliott (yes, Luke Elliott) all pitched in this game.

LONG BRANCH

Your beloved Huskies belted 16 hits & had 4 walks to take control of this game. Rocko Brzezniak (2 for 3, 3 Runs, 2 Doubles, 3 SB, BB), Luke Elliott (3 for 4, 2 Runs, 2 SB. 3 RBI), Tim Egan (2 for 4, Run, RBI), Mike Caldon (2 for 4, Run, 2 RBI), Tyler Bull (2 for 4, 2 SB, RBI), & Corey Pitts (2 for 4, Run, 3 SB, 2 RBI) led the charge. Aidan Holeman (1 for 4, Run, Double, 2 RBI), Matt Bauer (1 for 2, 2 BB, RBI), & Jack Lacovara (2 Runs, 5 SB) also enjoyed good games. Egan was the starting pitcher, going 3 innings while striking out 4 with no walks, as he totally dominated the Green Wave. Chris Walowitz pitched the fourth as a bridge to Caldon, who earned the Win.

LONG BRANCH

Poor Long Branch. They were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Your beloved Huskies belted another 10 hits, including 4 doubles, coupled with 15 Walks, to dominate this game. Your know who played well? EVERYBODY. Rocko Brzezniak (3 for 4, 2 Runs, Double, 3 SB, RBI), Tim Egan (1 for 2, 2 Runs, 2 SB, 2 BB, 2 RBI), Matt Bauer (1 for 3, Run, BB, 2 RBI), Mike Caldon (0-1, Run, 2 BB), AJ Vilchez (1 for 3, Run, Double, RBI), Corey Pitts (0-0, Run, 3 BB, 3 SB), Jack Lacovara (1-1, 2 Runs, SB), & Joe Bodin (0-1, Run, SB, 2 BB) were on base all day. Chris Walowitz, Jared Norman, TJ Gaboff, Joe Reinhold, Matt Gizzi, & Tyler Bull also got on base at least once. Aidan Holeman (1 for 3, Double, SB, BB, 3 RBI) pitched 4 innings to earn the Win. Luke Elliott (1 for 4, 2 Runs, Double, 3 SB, BB, RBI) threw the final 2 innings. All in all, 18 Huskies played in this game, and everyone of them reached base in a fantastic team effort. Poor Long Branch.

HOLMDEL

Tim Egan took the ball & pitched 6 dominant innings in our best pitching performance of the season. Egan scattered 6 hits while striking out 4 & walking 2. Joe Reinhold pitched the 7th & 8th, striking out 2, while facing 1 batter over the minimum. Rocko Brzezniak (2 for 2, 2 Runs, Double, HR, 2 SB, BB, RBI) opened the game with a BOMB Homerun, only the second ever hit at the expansive Guisti Field, raising his average to .704 & proving he is the best player in this league. Luke Elliott (2 for 3, 3 SB, 2 RBI) had a clutch 2 out infield hustle hit in the bottom of the 6th to tie the score at 3. Tyler Bull (2 for 3, Run, 2 SB) lead off the bottom of the 8th with a hit. Jack Lacovara pinch ran for him & scored the walk off winning run on Aidan Holeman's (1 for 2, Double, RBI) game ending hit. Your beloved Huskies are on a roll!

THORNE

A heartbreaker for the Huskies. After taking a 4-1 lead into the bottom of the 5th behind solid pitching from Aidan Holeman, your beloved Huskies gave up 3 runs to allow Thorne to tie the game. Then in the 7th, Thorne plated the winning run to walk off with this game. Luke Elliott (2 for 3, 3 SB, BB), Rocko Brzezniak (1 for 3, Run, Triple, SB, BB, RBI), & AJ Vilchez (2 for 3, Run, RBI) led the offensive charge. Tim Egan (1 for 3, Double, BB), Matt Bauer (1 for 4), Tyler Bull (1 for 4, Run, SB), Eli Gries-Smith (1 for 3, Run, BB), & Corey Pitts (1 for 3, RBI) all contributed nicely. But the story of this game was missed opportunities. The Huskies banged out 10 hits with 5 Walks, giving them plenty of baserunners, even loading the bases with no outs in the 3rd. As Thorne capitalized on their chances, the Huskies just couldn't muster a big hit to break the game open. As Dominic Salot pointed out, "We were one hit away all game. But did you see what Chris Walowitz did before the game?"

NEPTUNE

Eli Gries-Smith (1 for 3, BB) took the ball ball & pitched a gem, going 5 innings while logging 5 strikeouts & no walks, that's right, no walks. As a matter of fact, Luke Elliott (1 for 2, Run, 2 SB, BB, RBI) followed Eli and didn't walk a batter either, while striking out 3. Rocko Brzezniak (1 for 1, 2 Runs, Triple, SB, 2 BB), Tim Egan (2 for 3, Double, 2 RBI), AJ Vilchez (2 for 2, 2 Runs, Double, RBI), & Corey Pitts (2 for 3, 2 Runs, SB, 2 RBI) led the offensive explosion. Matt Gizzi (1 for 1, Run), Joe Bodin (1 for 1), Jack Lacovara (1 for 2, Run, SB, RBI), & TJ Gaboff (1 for 3, Run, RBI) all contributed at least a hit.

OCEAN

Your beloved Huskies traveled to Ocean looking for redemption for their only shutout loss of the season & ran right into a very dominant Ocean pitcher. He held the Huskies to 3 hits in his 5 innings of work. Fortunately, Tim Egan proved that he is just as dominant & also is an elite pitcher in this league. Egan (0 for 1, 2 BB) dominated for 6 innings, yielding just 3 hits, striking out 8, walking 4, & giving up just 1 run. Luke Elliott (0 for 2, Run, 2 BB, 2 SB) got it going in the first by scoring a run. With the score locked at 1 heading into the 7th, your beloved Huskies took control of this game. Egan walked. Tyler Bull (1 for 3, Run) singled. Eli Gries-Smith (0 for 2, Run, BB) walked to load the bases. Jack Lacovara (1 for 1, RBI) singled to bring in the winning run. Corey Pitts (0 for 2, BB, RBI) walked to force in an insurance run. Then, Mike Caldon hit into a fielder's choice to plate our last run. In the bottom of the 7th, leading by 3, Joe Reinhold shut down Ocean to earn the save. With 2 outs & a man on second, Ocean hit a hard grounder down the third base line. Left fielder AJ Vilchez fired a strike to Bauer, who applied an easy tag to end the game.
