2019 GAME REPORTS
4/2 Holmdel
Your beloved Huskies opened their 2019 campaign on a cold day in Holmdel. Unfortunately, it wasn't just the weather that was chilly; our bats & gloves were affected also. Jack Sassa (1 for 2, R, 2 SB, BB, SAC, RBI) enjoyed the best day at the plate. Sean Hart (1 for 3, BB) & Sal Cassano (1 for 3, R, SB) collected all the hits. Joey Bodin (0 for 1, 2 BB), AJ Fumarola (0 for 2, BB), & Chris Galasso (0 for 1, 2 R, 2 BB) also ran the bases. It seems that this match boiled down to who made the least mistakes, as many games do, & Holmdel won that category.
4/4 Thorne
Small Ball. Manufacturing runs. Old school baseball. Your beloved Huskies turned back the clock to the days when real baseball was played. In a classic pitchers' duel, the 'big inning' where extra base hits are ripped, was not going to happen. So, this team adapted and won an exciting game with outstanding pitching, 2 squeezes, & a SAC fly. Sean Hart (2 for 3, SAC squeeze, RBI) squeezed in Brandon Falco (1 for 3, R, BB) in the 6th to start the scoring. Mark Kovach, the very next batter, squeezed in Joey Bodin, to extend the lead. The 7th inning saw Colin McGeehan (1 for 2, BB) walk to start the inning. Gavin Tay ran for Colin & immediately stole second. Sal Cassano SAC bunted Tay to third. Charlie Kriska promptly SAC flied him home for an insurance run. Falco pitched the first 4 innings effectively shutting down a potent Thorne lineup. Kovach threw the final 3 innings to earn his first win.
4/9 Ocean
In the 2019 home opener, AJ Fumarola (2 for 2, Triple, 2 RBI) took the ball and almost willed his team to a win. AJ pitched effectively into the 4th, striking out 5 while only walking 1, leaving a few men on in a 0-0 game. Unfortunately, your beloved Huskies just couldn't hold Ocean's potent bats down any longer & they erupted for 15 runs over the final 3 innings. Brandon Falco (1 for 3, RBI), Sean Hart (1 for 2, R), Charlie Kriska (1 for 1, BB), & Mark Kovach (0 for 0, 2 BB, R) all enjoyed a strong day at the plate.
4/11 Cedar Drive
Your beloved Huskies finally dominated a game. Brandon Falco (2 for 4, RBI) took the ball & dominated from the first pitch. Falco tossed 4 innings, striking out 4 while walking 2. Mike Dipietro (1 for 3, RBI) pitched well for the final 3 innings, striking out 3 with no walks. Jack Sassa (1 for 3, 2 R, SB, BB, RBI), Sean Hart (1 for 4, R, RBI), Charlie Kriska (1 for 2, R, BB, RBI), & Mark Kovach (1 for 3) all collected hits in this 8-2 victory.
4/16 Bayshore
Chris Galasso (1 for 1, Double) broke up a no-hitter in the bottom of the sixth to account for the only hit against a dominant Bayshore pitcher. Andrew Gendi, AJ Reamer, Matt Cole, & Jayce Thoroughman each had a walk. Charlie Kriska pitched 2 2/3 innings of relief, striking out 1 with no walks.
4/17 Thompson
Your beloved Huskies tried their best, but just could not muster too much offense against the undefeated number 1 team in the league. Joey Bodin & Jack Sassa drew back to back walks to account for all of our baserunners in this lopsided loss.
4/30 Hazlet
Brandon Falco took the ball & pitched an absolute gem, striking out 8, only walking 2, & surrendering just 3 hits over 5 1/3 innings in this pitchers' duel. Unfortunately, Hazlet's pitcher matched Falco with zeroes on the scoreboard. Although your beloved Huskies managed 11 walks, they only got 2 hits, and could not get that big hit with runners in scoring position. Joey Bodin (1 for 2, Double, BB) & Jack Sassa (1 for 3) collected the hits. Hazlet pushed a run across in the bottom of the 6th to win 1-0 in this instant classic.
5/1 Neptune
AJ Fumarola (1 for 3, RBI) threw 4 innings of 2 hit ball to give your beloved Huskies a chance to win. Joey Bodin (2 for 3, Double) & Jack Sassa (2 for 3) paced the offense. Sean Hart (1 for 3, Run) & Andrew Gendi (1 for 1) also collected hits. Chris Galasso enjoyed a spectacular day in the field, making play after play at short stop. Neptune scored 3 unearned runs in the fourth & fifth to take this game 3-1.
5/3 Long Branch
Your beloved Huskies only scratched out 3 hits in this lopsided defeat. Joey Bodin (1 for 2, BB), Jayce Thoroughman (1 for 2, Run), & Jake Bonetto (1 for 1, RBI, BB) collected all the hits. Andrew Gendi, Bryan McCartin, Gavin Tay, Shane Corbett, & Matt Cole each got on base via a walk.
5/7 Holmdel
In a game deemed an instant classic, your beloved Huskies put forth a gigantic team effort to win this extra inning affair. AJ Fumarola (1 for 4) enjoyed his best pitching performance thus far. AJ tossed 5 innings, striking out 4, yielding 3 walks, & only allowing 1 unearned run. Charlie Kriska earned the win in relief. Kriska pitched the final 3 innings, striking out 2, walking 1, while not surrendering any runs. Brandon Falco (2 for 4, Double, SB, RBI) & Jack Sassa (1 for 3, 2 Runs, 2 SB, BB) paced the offense. Sean Hart (1 for 3, BB) & Sal Cassano (1 for 3) also collected hits. Chris Galasso (1 for 4, RBI) had the game winning RBI to score Sassa on a walk-off single in the bottom of the 8th.
5/9 Thorne
The Husky bats finally wake up! Your beloved Huskies banged out 10 hits, coupled with 11 walks, to have baserunners every inning in this 9-2 victory. Brandon Falco (2 for 2, 2 BB, 2 RBI) had a day at the plate & on the mound. Falco tossed 4 dominant innings, striking out 6, walking 2, & only yielding 2 runs. Andrew Gendi (2 for 3, R, RBI), Jack Sassa (1 for 2, 2 R, 3 SB, 2 BB), Joey Bodin (1 for 3, Double, BB, 2 RBI), Charlie Kriska (1 for 3, R, SB), Jake Bonetto (1 for 1, SB), Chris Galasso (1 for 2, R, BB), & Mark Kovach (1 for 3, R) all collected key hits. Sean Hart & Mike DiPietro each were on base twice via walking.
