Matawan 0 Holmdel 1

The Huskies stumbled out of the gates falling at Holmdel by a single goal. Half way through the first half the Hornets found the back of the net which proved to be enough to hold off a Matawan team that dominated possession and the run of play but struggled to threaten the Holmdel goal, recording only two shots on net. Alex Cella was an offensive catalyst orchestrating the only real chance Matawan would have all day. Cella's bended direct kick forced a goalkeeper save which spilled into the six yard box before being redirected off the post and out. Mike Grillo was a stalwart on defense in his first career start at outside fullback. Colin Thompson recorded three saves in the loss. Matawan returns to action on Thursday in its home opener against Neptune.

The Huskies bounced back from a tough loss by pounding Neptune in their home opener 5-0. Michael Toomey opened the scoring when he buried a side volley into the back off the net on a driven cross from Joe Koempel. Jacob Labinger grabbed his first career marker on an assisit from Ahmed Younis making the score 2-0 early in the second half. Koempel put the game out of reach when he headed home a Toomey cross. Alex Cella made it 4-0 with a blast from the 18-yard box that caught all side netting and left the goalie helpless. Jack DeVizia capped off the evening with his first career goal, assisted by Sada Mehari. In the developmental period Keleb Mehari scored twice, John Vail scored on an assist from Charlie Costello and Mike Grillo added a fourth. All in all, five 6th graders found themselves on the score sheet forecasting a bright future for MAMS Boys Soccer. Colin Thompson secured the shutout and James Vicari made a tremendous kick save to nullify a Neptune breakaway. Huskies prepare for Hazlet on Tuesday.
Matawan 1 Thorne 3

After a week long layoff due to inclimant weather, the Huskies were back on a rain soaked pitch battling Thorne as well as mother nature on Tuesday. After spotting Thorne a 2-0 halftime lead, the Huskies turned up the intensity dominating much of the second half before ultimately falling by the score of 3-1. Early in the second half Alex Cella tooked a chipped ball from Bronsen Dhume off his thigh and side volleyed a skipping liner past the diving keeper and into the back of the net. In a game that featured tough footing and challenging conditions the Huskies continously worked as a team and on numerous occassions just missed equalizing. Colin Thompson made fivesaves in defeat, two of the spectacular variety. Matawan returns to action on Thursday when they travel to Colts Neck.

For the second consecutive game the Huskies (1-3) came out flat and found themselves in a 2-0 hole that they once again couldn't climb out of. Jack DeVizia played strong, relentless defense in the loss and proved to be a quality team leader. Leo Nobrega scored his first career goal in developmental period. The Huskies hope to right the ship on Tuesday when they travel to Hazlet.

Matawan (2-3) regained its form and found its winning ways by downing Thompson 2-0. Alex Cella found the back of the net twice, on both ocassions assisted by Michael Toomey. On both goals Toomey's slotted through balls beat a flat back four and put Cella in alone on the keeper. Colin Thompson made six saves in recording his second shutout of the year. Keleb Mehari scored his third goal of the year in the developmental period. Matawan prepares to travel to Bayshore on Monday.

Huskies (3-3) continued their late season momentous run by collecting its second consecutive two goal victory when they shutout Bayshore on Monday afternoon. In a chippy, hard fought game, Matawan took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break. Joe Koempel beat a defender off the dribble and served a brilliant cross into the eighteen yard box that was side volleyed off the inside of the upright and into the back of the net for Matt Isaacson's first goal of the year. Isaacson turned helper in the second half when his service was headed past the keeper by Jacob Labinger, giving the Huskies an insurance goal and a 2-0 victory. Colin Thompson had 4 saves in collecting his third shutout of the season. Huskies look to continue their roll when they host top seeded Long Branch on Wednesday.

The Huskies (3-4) struggled to find their offensive footing all night and were perpetually on their heels battling the Green Wave who set up shop in their defensive third of the field and rarely relinquished any real estate. Matawan squandered the few offensive counter attacks it did have and eventually conceded the lone game winning goal on a twenty yard blast that beat the keeper up high. Matawan will need to bounce back quickly as it gets set for Hazlet tomorrow.
Matawan 2 Hazlet 1
The Huskies (4-4) evened up their record by tripping up Hazlet by the score of 2-1. In a evenly played first half that saw the score 0-0 at the break it looked as if it was anyone's ball game. Matawan came out of the gates strong and seized control of the contest early in the second half. Matt Isaacson's nifty give and go with Alex Cella beat a defender along the sideline and Cella was able to turn the corner and beat the keeper to the far side with a low hard driven shot. The goal was Cella's team leading fifth of the season. Matawan doubled up its lead ten minutes later when a Cella corner kick fell to Isaacson and he again got the helper as he found Sada Mehari inside the six yard box where Mehari deposited in the back of the net. Colin Thompson recorded six saves in the win. Matawan prepares for its season finale on Tuesday with a rematch against Hazlet. In the developmental period John Vail scored his first two career goals and Adam Elliott added his first of the season. The Huskies future looks bright as its young stars and created ample goal scoring opportunites and converted on many more than their opponents.

The Huskies (5-4) finished the season by pounding Hazlet by the score of 6-2. Matawan went out in style is their offense exploded for a season high six goals. Michael Toomey got Matawan off and running when he trapped a Sada Mehari pass inside the eighteen yard box and deposited it in the corner of the net. Alex Cella made it 2-0 with his team leading sixth goal. Matt Isaacson's pass eliminated two defenders and created a one on one for Cella, he beat the defender and ripped a shot high and left over an out stretched keeper. Cella then became provider as he set up goals three and four assisting on first goals of the season for Bronsen Dhume and Amil Muminovic. Isaacson served up a precise free kick that Joe Koempel headed home to make it a 5-0 score and Leo Nobrega added the sixth when he finished a Keleb Mehari pass. Colin Thompson made five saves in the victory. The win gave Matawan a 5-4 record and allowed the Huskies to go out on a winning note.
