Band of Brothers: Pinto, Radoncic bros. propel Huskies to first win
10/1/13 The Huskies (1-3) left no doubt about it on Tuesday afternoon as they got on Bayshore early and often pounding them 9-0. The Huskies were sparked by two pairs of brothers who in total accounted for five goals and four assists on the afternoon. Denir Radoncic got Matawan off and running when he dribbled from central midfield around and through multiple Bayshore defenders and then hammered the ball past the keeper. Radoncic made it 2-0 when he received a pass from younger brother Enir, juked and jived around the Bayshore back four and again slotted it home. Radoncic notched the hat trick on a clever back heel after receiving a ball from Anthony Altomonte inside the 18-yard box as the keeper was closing down on him. The second half started with Enir Radoncic tallying his second goal of the year on an assist from his brother Denir. TJ Boutote cashed in his first to make it 5-0 when his forward companion Chris Pinto played him into space at the top of the eighteen. Chris Pinto found the back of the net with help from Enir Radoncic moments later. Newcomers Gavin Klamm, Marco Medel and Marcelo Colonna each found the score sheet for the first time, as they were assisted by Michael Porcelli twice and Anthony Peters, respectively. Vito Koempel and Griffin Hayward anchored a banged up and incomplete back four, while Anthony Pinto filled in at left back to help goalkeeping counterpart Chris Mallozzi record his first shutout of the year. The Huskies go back to work today in preparation for a rough and tumble trip to rival Hazlet on Thursday.
Green Wave crashes down on Matawan, hold off Huskies late rally
9/24/13 The Huskies (0-2) played rival Long Branch in a physical and at times chippy battle that was up for grabs until the final whistle. Matawan spotted Long Branch an early 1-0 advantage only to answer half way through the first half when Nico Clark side volleyed and Denir Radoncic cross home to level the score at one apiece. Facing a 3-1 deficit at the half, the Huskies refused to roll over finding a spark and pulling a goal closer immediately into the second half. Nico Clark found the back of the net for a second time when he slotted home an Enir Radoncic through ball, making it a 3-2 scoreline. The Green Wave made it 4-2 on a breakway. Continuing to push the attack the Huskies pulled another goal back when Enir Radoncic received a pass from his brother Denir in space and ripped a twenty yard bomb into the back of the net. Matawan continues to show glimpses of the spectacular but has not been able to put it together for an entire game. The Huskies go back to work today in preparation for their travel to Thompson on Thursday. Matawan dominated in the developmental period getting first goals from Chris Pinto and Anthony Ferrara.
Huskies concede two late goals fall to (0-3)
9/26/13 The Huskies(0-3) played 50 minutes of stalwart defense continually bending without breaking until finally conceding two late goals to fall to Thompson by a scoreline of 2-1. During the first half Denir Radoncic was a strong presense in the midfield continually looking to create counter attack chances for the Matawan forwards, however nothing materialized until the second half. Matawan drew first blood when Denir Radoncic's free kick from just outside the 18-yard box was spilled out by the Thompson keeper and pounded home by an opportunistic Anthony Ferrara. Matawan maintained the advantage until conceding the equalizer and the eventual game winner minutes later. The young Huskies are gaining experience and are perpetually in games late they just haven't devleoped that killer instict to put opponents away. Matawan returns to practice in preparation for their first home game at Strathmore when they host Bayshore. In the developmental period Enir Radoncic's perfectly served cross found TJ Boutote who expertly finished for his first marker of the young campaign.
Huskies fire on all cylinders win 5th consecutive; Thump Thorne
10/23/13 The Huskies (6-5) remained red hot on Wednesday defeating Thorne 5-0; winning their 5th consecutive game and pulling their overall record above .500 for the first time all year. Matawan got after Thorne early and often never doubting a victory was theirs for the taking. Enir Radoncic made it 1-0 when he thumped home a Denir Radoncic centering feed. Denir made it 2-0 when he worked a clever give and go with Chris Pinto. Denir Radoncic made it a 3-0 halftime lead when he scored his team high sixteenth goal of the year receiving a perfectly weighted pass into space from Gavin Klamm. 7th grade winger Nico Clark slid a Michael Porcelli pass into the corner to make it 4-0. Enir Radoncic finished what he started by converting an Anthony Peters pass into bookend goals that wrapped up a Husky win. The Huskies backline continued its physical play helping Chris Mallozzi score his fourth shutout of the year. Matawan continues to get leadership from its 8th grade standouts and quality minutes from its bench. The Huskies go back to work in preparation for a physcial finale showdown with undefeated Hazlet.
Huskies get bitten late, fall to Spartans in OT thriller
10/9/13 The Huskies(1-5) were back at it on Wednesday afternoon, looking for their second win against a fiesty Ocean team. Denir Radoncic leveled the score midway through the second half when his direct kicked was spilled into the net by the Ocean keeper. Radoncic gave the Huskies a 2-1 lead soon after when he received a pass from Matt Weisburg, beat a defender and sent a heavy left footed blast into the side netting. The Husky lead was short lived, conceding the equalizer in the dying moments of the second half and eventually the golden goal on a headed corner kick in the early stages of overtime. Matawan got a strong performance from their backline defense and many quality minutes from the bench. The Huskies go back to work today in preparation for a clash with Thorne on Friday.
