2014-2015 Game Reports

Huskies chase Colts from beginning, fall short in 3-1 loss
2/6/14 The Huskies (1-4-1) conceded an early goal to Colts Neck and were forced to chase the game, eventually falling 3-1. The first half was marked by glimpses of splendor play but was dominated by miscues and an inability for the Huskies to connect the dots and maintain any attack. 6th grade defenders Andrew Rosenberg and Dylan Frye played admirably as their minutes increased due to injury on the backline. Mal Mehari converted a penalty kick to pull the Huskies within one with under ten minutes remaining. Minutes later the Huskies midfield sprung Enir Radoncic into space, with a defender in his hip pocket; Radoncic used speed and guile to create a sliver of space to get off a half chance that went harmlessly wide as the Colts Neck keeper came charging out and clipped Radoncic as he tried to dribble around him much to the dismay of the Matawan faithful. A Colts Neck goal a few minutes later put the game out of reach for good. The Huskies host defending champs Hazlet on Wednesday, as they look to spoil their undefeated campaign.
Huskies fall to Ocean 4-1 in physical slugfest
10/2/14 The Huskies (1-3-1) fell to Ocean by a score of 4-1 in a tightly contested physical battle. Matawan answered an early Ocean goal when they progressed the ball into the Ocean corner, Enir Radoncic beat a man and slipped a perfectly paced ball across the six yard box to Gavin Klamm who tucked it into the corner for his third marker of the season. That would be the only goal of the game as the Huskies struggled to create an attack against an overly aggressive physical Ocean squad that seemed to punish and bruise them for every contested ball. Mike Mallozzi was splendid in goal making ten saves, allowing Matawan to remain in the game until late in the second half. The young Huskies continue to improve and learn from each lump and bruise they take, always fighting until the final whistle. Today Matawan goes back to work in preparation for Colts Neck on Monday.
10/8/14 The Huskies(1-5-1) continue to slide down the standings as a conceded goal in the opening minutes to Hazlet proved to be more than they could overcome in a 1-0 loss. The Huskies seemed to gain momentum as the game wore on into the second half but were unable to create an equalizing strike. Anthony Ferrara and Chris Dietrich provided a strong defensive presence on the backline keeping it a one goal defecit. The Huskies look to pull out of this current tailspin when they travel to Thorne on Friday. Mike Mallozzi made seven saves in the loss.
Huskies get 2nd win of season, steamroll Thorne
10/10/14 The Huskies (2-5-1) hopped off the bus with a 2-0 advantage thanks to a pair of goals from 7th grade striker Enir Radoncic. Unassisted markers from Gavin Klamm and Marcelo Colonna made it 4-0, and an outstanding solo effort down the sideline by Anthony Peters which lead to a converted penalty kick; his first goal of the season made it a 5-0 Matawan lead at the halftime interval. 6th grade halfback Giovanni Gallo added a pair in the second half. The first on a feed from Radoncic and the latter a 15 foot bender off a free kick giving the Huskies a resounding 7-0 victory. The Huskie defenders turned in a strong performance in front of Mike Mallozzi's second clean sheet. Gallo added a third goal on the day in the developmental period on a clever pass from Marco Medel, giving him is second helper of the day. The Huskies look to stay hot when they host Thorne in Wednesday's rematch.
10/17/14 The Huskies (3-6-1) struggled to create any consistant offensive attack on Friday afternoon and eventually fell to Holmdel 2-0. The Matawan goal mouth was under seige most of the first half, but strong play from Anthony Ferrara and Chris Dietrich kept it a 0-0 halftime scoreline. The second half was more of the same, Matawan struggling to connect with each other and losing the race every 50/50 ball. In typical Husky fasion; Matawan clawed and fought until the final whistle; ending in a 2-0 defeat. Matawan gets back to work this afternoon when they travel to Long Branch looking to even the season series at one game a piece with the Green Wave.
