Game Report '09
Holmdel 2...Matawan 1
The Lady Huskies opened up the 2009 season with a loss to Holmdel Thursday. Erica Mojica gave Matawan an early 1-0 lead as she lofted a ball from 25 yards out that fell just beneath the crossbar. Holmdel responded with a goal of their own at the 23 minute mark, and the teams remained tied going into halftime. About 12 minutes into the 2nd half, Holmdel grabbed the lead for good. Jackie Robinson was stellar in goal as she was peppered with shot after shot throughout the game. Our defensive unit had their work cut out for them as Holmdel controlled the game in our half of the field. Olivia Walsh, Amanda Lloyd, Colleen Branagan, and Lyndsey Larsen played well and did not leave the field the entire game.
Neptune 1...Matawan 0
The Lady Huskies lost a tough 1-0 game to Neptune as the Scarlet Fliers drilled home a goal with just under two minutes to play. In a game that saw Matawan control play for most of sixty minutes, the Huskies just couldn't find the back of the net. Erica Mojica was the most dominant player on the field as she tallied many shots that were saved by Neptune's goalie. Tracey Brereton, Jenna Howley, and Jaida Allison had multiple shots as well. Hannah Nappi and Shannon Sansone played well up front, and our defensive core of Amanda Lloyd, Olivia Walsh, and Lyndsey Larsen played solid once again.
Hazlet 6...Matawan 0
The Lady Huskies faced a tough Hazlet team and were handed a 6-0 loss. The Hurricanes of Hazlet peppered goalie Jackie Robinson with dozens of shots as they quickly built a 3-0 lead. It was truly a day when everything went right for Hazlet and few things went well for Matawan.
Thompson 7...Matawan 0
The Huskies had to shift several players around the field due to the loss of its starting goalie. Erica Mojica made a valiant effort in goal as she tried in vain to stop the barrage of Thompson shots at the net. Unfortunately, it was 3-0 only eight minutes into the game. The young Matawan Huskies are experiencing some growing pains as they constantly meet up with older, faster, and physically stronger opponents. However, the Lady Huskies showed "no quit" as they gained valuable experience playing against superior competition. Jordan Grillo and Kristi Gambino did a fine job at the forward positions. Endila and Dalila Radoncic continued to mature as soccer players as they gave their all on the field. Emily Bellone, Colleen Branagan, Olivia Walsh, and Amanda Lloyd played well in the loss.
Thorne 3...Matawan 0
The girls soccer team suffered another defeat at the hands of Thorne Middle School. However, unlike the past two games, the Lady Huskies showed some promise in a season filled with growing pains. Matawan showed nice ball movement and was able to maintain possession in Thorne's half for significant periods of time. Unfortunately, the young Huskies couldn't find the back of the net. Amanda Lloyd and Dalila Radoncic scored goals in the developmental period which we hope will carry over to our game Monday with Colts Neck.
Colts Neck 6...Matawan 0
Althought the Huskies displayed some good ball movement very early in the game, they were not able to mount any scoring chances against a Colts Neck team that had only one loss all season. Endila Radoncic, Amanda Lloyd, and Olivia Walsh worked tirelessly throughout the game.
Matawan 11...Long Branch 0
The Green Wave of Long Branch and the gusty winds of Mother Nature were not enough to prevent the Lady Huskies from lighting the lamp eleven times to propel Matawan to its first victory of the season. Colleen Branagan opened the scoring just 50 seconds into the game on a feed from Erica Mojica (2 goals, 1 assist). Jenna Howley scored her first career MAMS goal with an assist by Jaida Allison. Olivia Walsh made the score 6-0 with an assist by Brittany Kakoleski (1 goal, 1 assist) and Lyndsey Larsen ending the explosive first half with an unassisted goal. The Huskies kept the pressure in the second half as Kakoleski scored her first MAMS goal with an assist by Tracey Brereton. Dalila Radoncic scored 2 unassisted goals and Amanda Lloyd notched one herself. Great game girls!
Bayshore 3...Matawan 0
The Huskies played their best game of the season in a loss to Bayshore yesterday. Matawan possessed the ball for the majority of the game and pressured the Bayshore half for considerable lengths of time. Jackie Robinson played well in goal. The Huskies hope this effort carries over into their last two games of the season.
Hazlet 5...Matawan 0
The Hurricanes of Hazlet swept the series against Matawan this year as they defeated the Huskies 5-0 this time around. The Lady Huskies again showed promise as they continued to move the ball nicely which created several scoring opportunities. Erica Mojica and Jenna Howley had multiple shots on goal. Our outside halfbacks also played well as Jaida Allison, Endila Radoncic, and Tracey Brereton had nice runs and crosses from our side of the field. Come support the Lady Huskies as they play their final game vs. Holmdel.
Holmdel 3...Matawan 0
The Lady Huskies closed out the 2009 season with a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Holmdel. Matawan was forced to play this game without its starting goalkeeper who was out with an injury. Jenna Howley was stellar in goal as she shutout Holmdel in the first half. Colleen Branagan, a true team player, filled in admirably as she played goal for the 2nd half. Erica Mojica, Amanda Lloyd, Olivia Walsh, Dalila Radoncic, and Alexis Coccio played their last games in their MAMS career. The young Lady Huskies will be back in 2010!
