Ocean 6...Matawan 2
The Huskies dropped their 2012 home opener to Ocean 6 to 2. The Huskies trailed early and often but were able to tie the game at half on unassisted goals by Kacey Lambertson and Lauren Conroy. Several diffensive miscues in the second half lead to numerous scoring opportunities that Matawan could not withhold.
Matawan 4...Holmdel 0
Matawan secured its first victory of 2012 and its first victory vs. Holmdel in over 4 years as they blanked Holmdel 4 to 0. Jenn Lloyd notched her first goal of the year just 2 minutes in as she emerged from a scrum and found the back of the net with her shot. Sam Anderson scored at the 4" mark with an assist by Lauren Conroy, who also assisted on Kacey Lambertson's second goal of the year. The second half scoring was closed out by an own goal into Holmdel's net to secure the victory. Carolyn Creamer, Sam Walsh, Katie Baldessare, Otilia Szabo, and Dora Marshall shut down Holmdel's attackers. Kelly Keegan earned her first career MAMS win and shutout in goal. Amanda Hunter scored 2 goals in extra play.
Matawan 5...Neptune 2
The Huskies rallied from an early 1-0 deficit to defeat Neptune 5-2 and improve to 2 and 1 on the season. Lauren Conroy collected a hat trick while Sam Anderson and Kacey Lambertson scored the other goals. Otilia Szabo and Katie Baldassare notched their first assists of the season. Amanda Hunter secured her first career MAMS victory and shutout in goal. Alina Ogurek and Courtney Wassmer played solid throughout the game.
Matawan 4...Long Branch 0
Kelly Keegan and Amanda Hunter combined to shut out the Wave of Long Branch for Matawan's third win of the season. Lauren Conroy connected for the first goal with an assist to Jennifer Lloyd. Gabby Sferrazza unselfishly assisted three other Huskies on the way to victory. Also scoring goals for Matawan were Sam Anderson and DoraAnn Marshall, who scored twice. The Huskies continued their offensive onslaught as Sarah Lapinski scored twice in extra time and Dana Morgan, DeAnna Lynch, and Courtney Wassmer also scored goals.
Thompson 2...Matawan 0
Thompson scored an early goal and Matawan never seemed to capitalize on its opportunities as the Huskies dropped to 3 and 2 on the season.
Matawan 1...Bayshore 0
Gabby Sferrazza drilled home a corner kick from DoraAnn Marshall for her first goal of the season as Matawan handed Bayshore its first loss of the season. The Huskies had a stellar defensive effort as Tilie Szabo, Carolyn Creamer, Katie Baldassare, and Sam Walsh solidified the back four and Sarah Lapinski, Courtney Wassmer, DeAnna Lynch, and Amanda Hunter made big contributions off the bench. Kelly Keegan earned her second shut-out of the season.
Matawan 4...Hazlet 1
The Lady Huskies defeated Hazlet for the first time in 5 years with a resounding 4-1 victory. Lauren Conroy collected her 2nd hat trick of the season and DoraAnn Marshall notched her 3rd assist and 3rd goal to lead the offense. Alina Ogurek assisted on Conroy's 3rd goal and Kacey Lambertson assisted on her first. Kelly Keegan was solid once again in goal. Sarah Lapinski and Amanda Hunter collected goals in extra time with assists going to Keegan and Courtney Wassmer.
Matawan 5...Thorne 0
Kacey Lambertson headed home a corner kick from Lauren Conroy to provide all the scoring Matawan would need as Amanda Hunter notched her first shutout and the Huskies improved to 6-2-0. Courtney Wassmer scored her first two MAMS goals on the season and DoraAnn Marshall tallied her 4th of the year. Gabby Sferrazza, Lauren Conroy, and Hunter collected assists. Otilia Szabo, Carolyn Creamer, Jenn Lloyd, Sam Walsh, and Katie Baldassare enjoyed strong defensive efforts. Morgan Jones scored a goal in extra time of a feed from Cate Toomey.
Matawan 4...Holmdel 1
The Huskies controlled play and peppered the Holmdel net but found themselves training 1-0 with 11 minutes to play. Courtney Wassmer worked a ball free to Lauren Conroy, who found the back of the net to tie the game. Kacey Lambertson, re-entering the game after a knee injury, poked a lose ball home after a Conroy corner to take the lead. Conroy and Marshall added much-welcomed insurance to take a commanding lead on their way to their 7th victory of the season. Gabby Sferrazza, Sam Anderson, and Jenn Lloyd did a great job of controlling the midfield and the defensive core of Otilia Szabo, Katie Baldassare, Sam Walsh, and Carolyn Creamer repeatedly denied Holmdel chances. Amanda Hunter was stellar in goal for the second game in a row.
Matawan 3...Long Branch 0
Matawan posted it's 5th shutout of the season as they defeated the Green Wave of Long Branch 3-0. Sam Walsh scored "her second goal in her life" as she jumped the play and blasted a shot from just outside the 18. Kacey Lambertson continued to capitalize on corner kicks from Lauren Conroy as she scored her 7th goal of the season. Sam Anderson collected her 4th goal and DoraAnn Marshall, Lambertson, and Conroy notching assists. Amanda Hunter posted her 2nd shutout of the season as she denied all Long Branch opportunities. Hunter and Lambertson scored a goal apiece in extra play and Dana Morgan scored 2.
Matawan 4...Hazlet 0
It took the Huskies a mere 24 seconds to light up the scoreboard as Sam Anderson scored her first of two goals in the opening minute and was assisted on both goals by Gabby Sferrazza. In the second half, DoraAnn Marshall notched a pair of goals with Sam Walsh assisting on the first one to pace Matawan to a 4-0 win. Amanda Hunter earned her third shutout of the year as the Huskies improved to 9-2 on the season.
Matawan 1...Colts Neck 1
Matawan traveled to Colts Neck after Hurricane Sandy hit the Jersey Shore with Colts Neck primed for a conference championship. However, the Huskies had different plans as they delivered the first blow when Courtney Wassmer fed Gabby Sferrazza with a cross that she placed in the back of the net for a 1-0 lead 4 minutes into the second half. The Huskies then held on for dear life and Kacey Lambertson stood on her head as she denied repeated Colts Neck scoring opportunites. While committing to playing defensive soccer for 60 minutes, the Colts took advantage of a botched play in the box to tied the game with 5 minutes remaining. Both teams battled for 10 minutes of overtime as the game ended in a tie - denying Colts Neck a share of the league championship. All ten of our 8th graders played inspired soccer throught this game and season: Sam Anderson, Sam Walsh, Carolyn Creamer, Lauren Conroy, Kacey Lambertson, Tilly Szabo, Katie Baldassare, Gabby Sferrazza, DoraAnn Marshall, and Jenn Lloyd. Courtney Wassmer and Alina Ogurek battled against a physical team and Sarah Lapinski and Amanda Hunter provided key minutes off the bench. The Huskies finished with a 9-2-1 record good for 3rd place in the conference. Great Job Girls!!!
