2019 Game Reports

Matawan 6...Colts Neck 1

The Huskies rolled over Colts Neck 6-1 in the opening game of the 2019 season. Mya King led the way as she added to her historic middle school career with 3 goals and 2 assists. Kayla Verrastro found the back of the net twice to put the Huskies up 2-0 and Nina Sassa notched a goal and an assist. Gianna D'Angelo and Ella Frye assisted on goals as well and Alexa Scarpinato was solid in between the pipes. Priscilla Asare scored the lone goal in extra time.

 

Ocean 3...Matawan 2

Mya King ripped a left-footed rocket from 25 yards out to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead in the first half. However, Matawan had trouble possessing the ball and struggled to get anything going offensively as the lost 3-2 against Ocean. King tallied a second unassisted goal but it was not enough as the Huskies dropped to 1-1-0 on the season.  

 

Matawan 2...Holmdel 1

The Huskies carried a strong first half effort into a win in their home opener against Holmdel to improve to 2-1-0 on the season. Mya King scored twice tallying her 6th and 7th goals of the season. Nina Sassa and Gianna Ascoli collected assist. Matawan's midfield play was much improved around Sassa, Lily Monico, and Gianna D'Angelo. Their backline played a strong game as well as Morgan Boutote, Audrey Chodkiewica, Natalie Queenan, Ella Frye, and Tarie Marsh defended well as they only let up a late Holmdel goal. Alexa Scarpinato earned her second victory of the season. 

 

Matawan 1...Thompson 1

Two of the premier teams in the Shore Conference of Middle Schools battled to a 1-1 tie after 70 minutes of soccer Wednesday. Trailing 1-0, the Huskies tied the match off a nifty combo play by Gianna D'Angelo and Audrey Chodkiewicz who fed Mya King with her 8th goal. The overtime sessions saw multiple chances by both team; however, neither team found the back of the net. The Husky center backs Ella Frye and Natalie Queenan played outstanding games and Alexa Scarpinato made several key saves to preserve the tie. 

 

Thorne 3...Matawan 2

The Huskies dropped their only game vs. Thorne by a 3-2 score. Mya King scored twice with assists going to Nina Sassa and Lily Monico. Matawan was unable to clear several loose balls inside the 18 which lead to two Thorne goals and their eventual win. 

 

Matawan 6...Neptune 3

Kayla Verrastro scored the first and second goals of the match off crosses from Mya King and then King proceeded to score the next 4 goals as the Huskies defeated the Scarlet Fliers 6 to 3. Gianna D'Angelo, Nina Sassa, and Tarie Marsh notched assists. Emma Verticchio made her debut in goal and made several key saves in the victory. 

 

Matawan 3...Bayshore 0

The girls soccer team defeated Bayshore 3-0 on Tuesday as Alexa Scarpinato earned her first MAMS shutout. Mya King added two goals to bring her total up to 16 for the season. Lily Monico drilled home her first career MAMS goal and Nina Sassa chipped in with an assist.

 

Thompson 1...Matawan 0

The Huskies played on the heels for much of their battle with Thompson as they were defeated 1-0. Alexa Scarpinato made a key save on a PK to keep the game close. 

 

Holmdel 6...Matawan 4

Mya King notched another hat trick and Gianna Ascoli scored her first career MAMS goal, but it was not enough as Holmdel rallied from a 3-0 deficit with 6 unanswered goals to drop the Huskies to 4-4-1 on the season. Gainna D'Anglelo and Tarie Marsh each notched assists in this loss. 

 

Thompson 2...Matawan 0

Matawan gave a strong effort, especially in the 2nd half, but were unable to find the back of the net as Thompson defeated them 2-0. The Husky back line of Tarie Marsh, Ella Frye, Natalie Queenan, and Morgan Boutote played a strong game in defense of goalie Alexa Scarpinato.

 

Matawan 4...Hazlet 0

The Huskies closed out the 2019 season with a 4-0 victory over Hazlet in the rain. Mya King recorded yet another hat trick to finish the season with 22 goals. Gianna D'Angelo scored a goal and had an assist. Gianna Ascoli assisted on two of King's goals and Lily Monico and Tarie Marsh chipped in with assists. Alexa Scarpinato recorded her 2nd shutout of the season. Great job all season by the Huskies and best of luck to our 8th graders as they move onto high school!
